Chocolate Banana Bread

sliced chocolate banana bread on parchment paper with melted chocolate chips

We all seem to have ripe bananas lying around and banana bread has become the craze. I mean why wouldn’t it be? It is so easy to make and requires just a few pantry staples to make a delicious loaf of cake. Count me in! Now, this chocolate banana bread just takes things to a whole other level.

I have always thought chocolate and bananas are a delicious match. The silky dark slightly bitter chocolate with the sweet ripened banana creates a mouthful of flavors that are quite addicting. Now imagine that in a decadent cake. This chocolate banana bread is not only gluten-free but dairy-free and has no refined sugars either!

Trust me this cake doesn’t lack chocolate or banana flavor. Its texture is moist, cake-like, and chocolatey. The cassava flour from Hearthy Foods made for a fabulous alternative to all-purpose flour. It is subtle in taste and adds a nutty note as well which enhances the loaf flavor. Highly recommend for any person following a gluten-free diet, whole30, or paleo to keep cassava flour in their pantry. You can use it for tortillas and/or baked goods just like this chocolate banana bread.

  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • Pinch of Salt

      1. I believe it would be 1 tbsp of chia seeds mixed with 3 tbsp of water. Someone else made it with a chia egg and it worked for them!

    1. I haven’t made this yet, but I have a question! Do you think almond flour would work instead of cassava flour?

      It looks delicious

      1. I am sure it would work but the ratio would be different more than likely. Check to see the ratio between cassava and almond. Not sure if it’s 1:1.

This turned out perfectly! Used canola oil instead of coconut oil, and only a small handful of chocolate chips on the top because my little ones will eat it, so didn’t want it to become too messy. Had a slice and it was delicious, and I hate banana! Give this recipe a try.

Thanks for this recipe, all the way from Belgium! I am usually not a big fan of banana bread but we’re bored at the house and decided to use the ripe bananas we had laying around. I even made 2 batches. The first one using regular flour and the second one using spelt flour with seeds. The flavour was rich and the texture moist. I love how the recipe is simple and easy. Also… it is soooooo chocolatey! We added walnuts to it and almonds. This one is a keeper. Shukran.
