Turkey Shawerma Burgers

turkey shawerma burgers

Hi friends! Hope you all are well. I’ve been combating some stomach discomfort on and off for over a week now which explains why I haven’t been as active. The other day I was watching the food network and saw a chicken shawerma burger and thought, Wow that’s a great idea! So last night, I made these delicious turkey shawerma burgers inspired by what I saw on the Food Network. The patty is super flavorful and moist; it does not disappoint. The lemon tahini sauce adds a creamy freshness to top the burger off. Hubby and I did lettuce wraps instead of traditional buns for a healthier twist. By the way, pictured below are the burgers in cabbage leaves because I mixed the two up! Has anyone done that before or is it just me? I hope you give these easy yummy burgers a try!

Total Time: 30-40 min approx.

Servings: 5 patties

1 1/4 lb ground turkey or chicken

1 tsp allspice

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp turmeric

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp chili powder

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt & Pepper to taste

1 tsp olive oil

1/2 cup chopped parsley

1/4 cup chopped sweet onion

2 garlic cloves finely chopped

  • In a small bowl, mix together all the spices and add the olive oil to it. Stir till it becomes paste-like. May need more olive oil. Let this sit for at least 15 minutes so flavors marinate.
  • In a larger bowl, add the ground turkey along with the parsley, onion, and garlic. Mix together with a little salt and pepper. Add the spice paste to it. It should be about 2 spoonfuls. Mix everything together well. Form the turkey patties.
  • Heat a cast iron pan with some olive oil. Add the burgers to the pan and cook for 6-7 minutes each side on high heat till fully cooked through.
  • Enjoy in a lettuce wrap or on a bun topped with the tahini sauce, some pickles, and fresh veggies. If you like cheese, feta would work perfectly with this.

Lemon Tahini Sauce

1 fresh lemon’s juice

1 tbsp water (to thin it out if necessary)

3 tbsp tahini

1 tbsp olive oil

Salt & pepper to taste

A sprinkle of sumac (optional)

  • Mix all the above ingredients together. If too watery then add more tahini if too thick then add more lemon juice or water.
