Za'atar Knots

Za'atar knots in a tower on a decorative plate
These baked za'atar knots are the perfect bite and using already made crescent dough makes it even easier to make for a quick brunch or snack!
Serves 8 rolls
Prep Time:10 minutes
Cook Time:10 minutes
Total Time:20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 Crescent Rolls packages (8 oz each)
  • 1 cup Za'atar blend of your choice
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/2 cup Fine Crumbled Feta or Cream cheese optional

Instructions

  • First, open the package of crescent rolls. There should be 8 crescent roll doughs.
  • Every 2 crescent roll doughs, flatten to make it one rectangular sheet. Flatten even more with a rolling pin but not too thin.
  • Brush with olive oil then sprinkle with about 2 tbsp of za'atar. Spread that around the surface. If you were adding cream cheese, skip the olive oil step. Instead smear some cream cheese and add the za'atar on top of that. If you are adding feta, then add the olive oil and zaatar then the crumbled feta on top.
  • Start rolling the dough from its longest side to create a log shape. Make sure the seams are all meshed together. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the log in half veritcally.
  • At this point, you are left with 2 halves. Have the filling facing the outside for both halves. Then shape it like a braid. One half over the other. Let both ends meat to create a crown appearance or fold the braid inwards to create a flower/knot appearance.
  • Bake in a 375 F oven for 12 minutes. Enjoy warm or room temperature.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container or ziplock. Then, warm up in the microwave or oven before enjoying it again.
Refrigerate leftovers after 2 days.
This can be made with homemade dough as well. It is more of a technique so definitely you can stuff these rolls with anything like Nutella, and or cheese. The options are endless.
The crescent rolls I used were vegan as they contained oil as opposed to butter.
