Caramel Apple Galette

caramel apple galette on a parchment paper

Who doesn’t love a delicious Fall dessert? Especially when it looks this good and is easy to put together! Impress your friends and family with this caramel apple galette. What is a galette you may be thinking? Well, it’s basically a flat open-faced pie with the edges curled in around the topping. It is rustic and elegant at the same time. You can use this dough to make any pie you like; it doesn’t have to be a galette. You can also explore other fruit flavors if apple isn’t your jam but apple in fall baking is a must for me!

Servings size: 10-inch galette

Total Time: approx. 2 hours (1 hour chill time) (30-40 min baking time)

Pie Dough ingredients

1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

Sprinkle of salt

1 tbsp sugar

1 stick of cold butter cut into 1-inch pieces

5 tbsp of cold water

Instructions

In a food processor, add flour, salt, and sugar. Pulse a few times.

Slowly start adding in pieces of the butter pulsing once or twice in between until all the butter is in the mixture. The mixture should resemble cornmeal with some small pieces of butter.

Then, add the cold water a tbsp at a time pulsing the mixture just a little bit. The dough may still look dry at this point but once you shape it with your hands; it should come together very nicely. If not, add a little more water (tsp at a time).

Shape into a thick disk and cover with plastic wrap. Place this in the fridge for about an hour to chill before using.

After chilling, place the dough on parchment paper and top the disc with plastic wrap. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough into a 12-inch disc. Do not make it too thin but you do not want it to be thick either. The plastic wrap will help avoid the dough from sticking.

Once it is rolled out, add the apple to the center without any of its juice. You can stack them nicely or just place them however you prefer but make sure to keep 2 inches around the edges free.

Fold the edges onto the edge of the apple filling and pinch as you go.

Top the edges with a brush of egg wash and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Bake in a 375 F oven for about 35 minutes until golden brown.

Drizzle caramel sauce over the top and garnish with walnuts if you choose. Enjoy as-is or with some fresh whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!

4 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored and cut into thin slices

1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tbsp ground nutmeg

Caramel sauce Ingredients(Adapted from All Recipes.com)

4 tbsp butter

2 tbsp milk

1/2 cup brown sugar

Instructions

Mix the 3 ingredients together in a pot over medium-high heat until it comes to boil. Make sure to be stirring consistently so you do not burn the caramel. Once it reaches a boil for at least a minute, lower the heat and keep stirring until it slightly starts to thicken. Take it off the heat and drizzle over galette or store in an airtight container on room temperature for 2-3 days. If it hardens, just place in the microwave so you can drizzle with it!
